Seton Hall blows out Saint Peter’s 69-49

NEWARK, N.J. (AP)—It’s never easy NFL jerseys wholesale when a team loses a 24-point per game scorer and All-American candidate. Seton Hall is finding that out now, ever since the Pirates lost Jeremy Hazell for at least six weeks to a broken wrist. “We have to fight through it,” said senior forward Herb Pope after the Pirates muddled their way through a 69-49 victory over Saint Peter’s on Monday night. “It’s not easy losing all those points. We have to deal with that now.” “When you get 24 points taken off the board, you have to grind it out a little,” first-year Seton Hall coach Kevin Willard said. “This is how we have to play.” Jordan Theodore paced a balanced scoring attack with 11 points and Jeff Robinson added 10, leading 10 Pirates who reached the scoring column. It marked the 15th straight time that the Pirates (3-3) defeated their cross-state rivals and the 23rd win in the last 24 meetings in the long-standing rivalry that spans eight decades. This marked the 63rd straight year that the two schools met. Seton Hall used an 11-0 run in the first half to take the lead for good and a 10-0 run in the second half to put the game away. The Peacocks (2-4) were paced by Ryan Bacon, who had 13 points. Pope added eight points and 10 rebounds for Seton Hall. The Pirates took the lead for good in the early stages of the first half, going on an 11-0 run, highlighted by three drives to the hoop by Theodore, who did not start the game. Theodore’s final drive gave Seton Hall a 19-9 lead with 8:33 remaining in the slow-paced first half. “There was no punishment involved,” Willard said of cheap ugg boots his decision to bring Theodore, the junior point guard, off the bench. “We put a lot of pressure on Jordan to get us going. We wanted to get him a chance to see the floor and see what was going on. Jordan came in and did what was expected of him. He controlled the game.” “I was comfortable with it,” Theodore said. “I watched what the defense was doing and then got in there and did what I’m supposed to do. I was able to come in there and break them down.” Seton Hall held the lead throughout the remainder of the half and led 29-20 at intermission. The Peacocks shot just 29 percent from the floor (7 for 24) in the half. Overall, the Peacocks shot just 34 percent (17 of 50). “We just missed a lot of wide-open looks,” Saint Peter’s coach John Dunne said. “In the end, they’re bigger, stronger and more physical and took advantage of that.” The Peacocks cut the lead to 36-30 on a three-point play from Bacon with 16:12 left, but the Pirates then scored the next eight points to push the lead to 44-30 with 13:09 remaining. Seton Hall scored 10 straight points in the second half to put the game away. Ferrakohn Hall threw down two dunks and Jamel Jackson capped the run with a long 3-pointer, pushing the lead to 56-36 with 8 minutes left. Willard was happy with the way his team responded after losing to Clemson and Xavier in the Paradise Jam tournament in the U.S. Virgin Islands. “We had two tough losses and had to put in three new offensive sets,” Willard said. “I was just getting comfortable with our substitutions and had to scrap all of that and start all over. It was the first time we realized Jeremy wasn’t Nashville Predators NHL Jerseys here and there was a bit of a shock.”

Buckeyes make it 7 in a row over U-M, 37-7

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP)—In the 107 editions of 2010 handbag the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry, things have never been this bad for the Wolverines. No wonder coach Rich Rodriguez is mad. “I’m ticked, he said, moments after his Wolverines got blown out 37-7 on Saturday—an unprecedented seventh straight loss to the Buckeyes. “What do you want me to do? Hold hands with all the Buckeye fans and sing ‘Kumbaya’?” Might as well. Nothing else seems to work for the Wolverines these days against their archrivals. They fell to 0-3 against Ohio State under Rodriguez, and have been outscored 100-24 in that span. It was enough to make even Ohio State coach Jim Tressel offer some consolation. “You know, we all have our ups and downs,” he said after improving to 9-1 against Michigan. “But Michigan will be back. You don’t have to worry about that.” Jordan Hall broke things open with an 85-yard kickoff return and the Buckeyes defense shut down the Wolverines’ vaunted offense. Ohio State (11-1, 7-1) picked up two celebration penalties after touchdowns but had a lot to celebrate: A share of a record-tying sixth straight Big Ten title and, most likely, a Bowl Championship Series bowl berth. Some say the Buckeyes take the rivalry more seriously than do the Wolverines. “First and foremost, it’s important to never lose to Michigan as a Buckeye, which is unusual,” said linebacker Ross Homan. “To end up with five rings from championships is another accolade. It’s a dream come true.” Meanwhile, Michigan (7-5, 3-5) will prepare for a second-tier bowl game and hope for better days. The Wolverines started more freshmen (four) than seniors (three) on Saturday. “I worry about my future everyday,” said Rodriguez, asked Red Monkey Jeans about rumors that his job was in jeopardy. “It’s been a lot slower (coming) than I wanted, a lot slower than our fans wanted. I don’t blame them for that. But I’m not deterred by it.” The crowd serenaded the teams with “We Don’t Give A Damn For the Whole State of Michigan” throughout the final quarter, long after the outcome had been decided. It was the second-most lopsided Ohio State victory in the series since 1968, eclipsed only by a 42-7 win the last time the game was played in Columbus—also with Rodriguez on the sidelines—in 2008. Ohio State players, dressed up in bright scarlet helmets and shoes for the game, were twice flagged for forming an “O” with their gloved hands while celebrating after touchdowns. The crowd of 105,491 booed lustily after each penalty. The rest of the afternoon was mostly cheers. Terrelle Pryor had TD passes covering 7 yards to Dane Sanzenbacher and 33 yards to DeVier Posey and Dan “Boom” Herron finished with 175 yards on 22 carries. Herron also tied a record for longest run from scrimmage in 88-year-old Ohio Stadium when he went 89 yards in the third quarter. He actually raced 98 yards untouched, but the touchdown was called back because Sanzenbacher held a defender as Herron was heading into the end zone. Pryor completed 18 of 27 passes for 220 yards with one interception. Up 24-7 at the half, most of the drama was drained from the game as Tressel elected to stick to the ground game while improving to 9-1 against the Wolverines. “It’s great to get victories with these guys,” Pryor Broncos NFL Jerseys said. Then he echoed his coach: “There were lots of ups and downs, but way more ups.” Michigan had drawn to 10-7 on Michael Shaw’s 1-yard plunge after Robinson had led an 80-yard march down the field. But then Hall’s return flipped the game around. “Jordan’s kickoff return was huge when it came because they had just scored,” Herron said. Michigan’s sterling quarterback, Denard Robinson, was hampered by an injured left (non-throwing) hand. He played little more than a half, running for 105 yards on 18 attempts and completing 8 of 18 passes for 87 yards. He came into the game second nationally in total offense at 343 yards a game. Ohio State’s defense—with backup cornerback Travis Howard intercepting one pass and recovering two fumbles—controlled a Michigan offense that came in averaging 37 points and 515 yards per game. The Wolverines ended up with 351 yards—less than 100 in the second half. Now the Buckeyes wait to see what bowl game they’ll go to. Most signs point to the Sugar Bowl against an SEC opponent. “There’s 10 BCS teams, right?” Tressel said. “Yeah, I think Hermes Scarf we’re one of those.”

Bush back for Saints after missing 8 games

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)—Reggie Bush(notes) was scarf back in the lineup for the New Orleans Saints, and the running back looked a bit rusty after missing eight games because of a broken right leg. The first pass thrown in Bush’s direction bounced off his shoulder pads and helmet. He later dropped a likely touchdown and then fumbled on a punt return to set up a short touchdown for the Dallas Cowboys, though the Saints rallied to win 30-27 on Thursday. “I don’t like to think of myself as rusty at all, but maybe it is,” Bush said. “That was just a mental error on my part. … Those are things that we can’t have and that they can get you beat. Next week, we’ll get better.” Bush had been listed as questionable after practicing on a limited basis during a short week of light team workouts before the Saints’ first Thanksgiving Day game. He got hurt Sept. 20, the second week of the season, while recovering his muffed punt at San Francisco. Though Bush started, the versatile running back was limited. He carried only once for a yard and caught only one of the three passes thrown his way for 12 yards. “There’s certainly frustration,” coach Sean Payton said. “The first game back for a player such as him is always difficult. He’s healthy and there are some things that he’ll obviously have to continue to work on. I think it’s challenging to him to not have the normal work week. … I don’t know that benefited a guy coming back off an injury as long as he’s been injured. That being said, he’s very competitive.” With the Saints up 20-13 soon after halftime, they had third-and-7 from the Cowboys 10 when Drew Brees(notes) threw a pass to Bush wide open over the middle. Catch the ball, and he likely walks into the end zone. Instead, they had Faed Perry Sweater to kick a field goal. “I kind of reached out and I’ve got to make those catches,” Bush said. “Nine times out of 10, I’m going to make those catches.” The bigger mistake came a few minutes later when Bush fielded a punt and took off running. But he fumbled when he was hit from behind by Jesse Holley(notes). “We knew they wanted to get the ball in his hands. He likes to bounce to the outside. When he went the other way, I had to run him down,” Holley said. “We knew he carried the ball loose. That’s what he does. So I wanted to first get the tackle, then come in with the strip.” Six plays later, the Cowboys scored to get to 23-20. “With the turnover, you just can’t have those type of mistakes in a crucial situation like that in the game, when the game is on the line,” Bush said. “That’s a mental error on my part. I’ve got to clean it up and I’ve got to play better. But it did feel good to get back out there and get my feet wet. … The important thing was we got a win.” The broken leg capped a difficult few weeks for Bush, who gave back his Heisman Trophy. The NCAA punished Southern California after concluding that Bush and his family improperly accepted money and gifts from sports agents while Bush played for Gucci Suit the Trojans. Bush said he returned the award to end the controversy.

Sterger’s manager says no settlement with Favre

MINNEAPOLIS (AP)—The manager for sheepkin boots the woman at the center of the NFL’s investigation of Brett Favre(notes) said Tuesday that the quarterback’s agent asked about paying her to keep quiet. But that’s not how Favre’s agent, Bus Cook, sees it. Cook said in a statement that Jenn Sterger’s camp made “numerous overtures” to him. He said he believes money has been the motivation for the former New York Jets game emcee. Sterger’s manager, Phil Reese, told The Associated Press in a telephone interview he called Cook in October to alert him about a forthcoming Internet report alleging Favre sent inappropriate messages and lewd photos to Sterger when they were both with the Jets two years ago. Reese said the reason he reached out was to compare notes about news that could be damaging to both of their clients. “I was concerned because I didn’t know exactly what was going to be coming out, and I knew that it wasn’t going to be good for everyone involved,” Reese told the AP in a phone interview. “He asked me if there was a specific figure in mind that could make this go away. I told him, ‘I wish it were that easy, but there’s no putting the toothpaste back in the tube.”’ Cook replied in a statement to the AP Tuesday that there was never an intention to offer money for silence. “Her manager and her lawyer have made numerous overtures to me … at least 6 between the two of them,” Cook wrote. “Anyone can figure out why. The point is we were never going to pay them, we didn’t pay them and we will never pay them. Because, there is NO reason to pay them! They should consider that their attempts to negotiate privately and through the media have failed.” Cook declined to answer further questions about the matter. Joe Conway, Sterger’s attorney, said he called Cook once to sports jerseys introduce himself and followed up with a letter. “It’s not about money. It’s about doing the right thing,” Conway said in a phone interview. The website Deadspin has said it paid a third party for the materials it posted in a video on Oct. 7, which prompted a league investigation that’s been going on since soon after. The piece includes text messages and voicemails allegedly left by the now-Vikings quarterback for Sterger, including one in which he invites her to his hotel. The video ends with several lewd photos— said to be of Favre—which were allegedly sent to Sterger. A former model who also appeared on the Versus television network, Sterger refused to speak on the record to the website. She talked to league investigators on Nov. 11 and cooperated fully, according to Reese. Reese said the reason it took so long for Sterger to meet with the NFL was logistical, lining up witnesses to corroborate her story and waiting for forensics specialists he normally works with to analyze data. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Tuesday he had nothing to report on the investigation. Favre has consistently refused to answer reporters’ questions about UGG Classic Crochet Boots the allegations since the Deadspin report was posted.

Top-ranked Oregon breaks silence

For top-ranked Oregon, there is uggs boot no Oregon State or a major bowl game after that. It’s all about Arizona right now. The Ducks threw open the doors to practice again on Sunday after shutting down for a bye week, coming out of the self-imposed silence ready for Friday’s game against the 20th-ranked Wildcats. It’s the penultimate regular-season stop on the way to what Oregon hopes will be a national championship. After Arizona, the Ducks visit Oregon State in the Civil War rivalry game on Dec. 4. Not that they’re ready to talk about all of that. “When you look ahead you get beat. I think everybody knows that,” running back LaMichael James said. The undefeated Ducks practiced on Monday, Wednesday and Friday last week, no doubt reflecting on a too-close-for-comfort 15-13 victory over California the weekend before. Oregon has plowed its way through each opponent this season with the same mantra: “Win the Day.” The philosophy—coach Chip Kelly’s catchphrase—is even painted on the four corners of Autzen Stadium’s field and the words greet the players as they head through the tunnel into the stadium. “It’s close,” quarterback Darron Thomas said of the finish line. “But we’re just worrying about Arizona and not too worried about Oregon State or games down the road.” The Civil War was looking more intriguing Sunday after the Beavers beat No. 20 USC 36-7 at Reser Stadium on Saturday night. Oregon State, 5-5 overall and fighting for bowl eligibility, visits No. 7 Stanford this Saturday before finishing out the season at home. Oregon looked vulnerable in the victory over sports jerseys the Golden Bears. The Ducks were averaging nearly 55 points and 567 yards of offense going into the game against Cal, which held them to 317 yards and just one touchdown. The Golden Bears are tenuously clinging to bowl aspirations after a loss in the Big Game against Stanford on Saturday. California was accused after the game against the Ducks of unsportsmanlike conduct by feigning injuries to slow the pace. In one instance a Cal player looked over to the sideline before walking toward a game official and abruptly falling to the ground, a scene that lives on in a popular Internet video. Kelly commented last week that if teams need to resort to faking injury to slow Oregon down, it speaks volumes about how hard the Ducks are to keep up with. And it equally says a lot about teams that resort to such measures, he suggested. James said Sunday there was no concern that Cal may have exposed a weakness in Oregon’s offense. No one is perfect. “No. We are human,” he said. “We put our pants on just like everybody else does. We are different because of our tempo. We practice and play hard. That’s the big key for us.” James, a Heisman Trophy candidate who is averaging a national-best 158 yards rushing a game, had to be helped off the field after the Cal game and appeared afterward on crutches and wearing a boot. He wasn’t listed on Oregon’s injury report Sunday and wore pads at practice. But he did not take part in team drills, explaining he was still was experiencing some discomfort. “A little bit,” he said. “There is still pain but in a couple days I’ll be fine.” Receiver Lavasier Tuinei wore a sling on his left arm and did not practice. He was officially day to day, because Kelly does not discuss injuries. Kelly said practice was business at usual. “Same thing as every week: Fundamentals, blocking, ball New Blance Shoes security, normal things, nothing really changes,” he said. Oregon also unveiled plans Sunday for the expansion of the Len Casanova Center, adjacent to Autzen, which will include an “operation center for football that will be unsurpassed in the country.” The ambitious project, expected to be completed in 2013, will be funded by Nike co-founder Phil Knight and his wife Penny.

T.O. not lost for words with Bills coming to town

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP)—New team. Same scarf old, defiant, outspoken and, yes, playful Terrell Owens(notes). Whether it was in Buffalo last year or now in Cincinnati, T.O. had no difficulty talking about himself, Bills quarterbacks or anything else Wednesday as the Bengals (2-7) prepare to host the Bills (1-8) in Sunday’s “battle of the worst,” as he put it. Owens opened and closed a near 20-minute conference call with Buffalo reporters by playfully saying, “Go Bills.” In between, he expressed no surprise that the Bills lost faith by cutting quarterback Trent Edwards(notes) earlier this season; and offered a message to anyone—including Buffalo’s first-year coach Chan Gailey—who might have thought he hit the wall last season. “No, T.O. doesn’t hit any walls,” Owens said when informed that was one of Gailey’s concerns in not re-signing him. “Trust me, if there’s any walls in front or me, I’m going to find a way to go through it, around it, or over it. There’s no just hitting the wall.” At 36, Owens’ production this season certainly speaks to the contrary. Nine games in, he ranks third in the NFL with 834 yards receiving and is tied for fourth with seven touchdowns—numbers surpassing the 829 yards and five scores he had in his one year with the Bills. Though disappointed in the Bengals’ record, Owens isn’t surprised by his resurgence in a year he had to wait until July for Cincinnati to sign him to a one-year contract. “Teams passed up on me because of what I didn’t do so much in Buffalo. Other than that, I can only do what I can do to prove a lot of people wrong,” Owens said. “If I’m put in the right situation, I’m able to Nike Kobe Bryant shoes succeed and do some of the things that people are seeing now that they feel is, I guess, eye-opening for my age.” Though he isn’t sure about his future with the Bengals beyond this season, Owens can see himself continuing to play and produce at 40. It was just like old times for Owens, who expressed similar sentiments in Buffalo. And it was no surprise that T.O. had an opinion on the Bills’ quarterbacking situation after Edwards, now a backup in Jacksonville, was benched after two games and then released a week later in favor of journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick(notes). “I think it was just going to be a matter of time,” Owens said. “I was shocked at the beginning of the season that Trent was still named the starter. I think that coaching staff kind of recognized that he wasn’t, I guess, at the level that they needed him to be.” Owens has a personal bias, because he had his best games with the Bills after Fitzpatrick took over in November. And that included Owens enjoying a season-best 197 yards receiving in an 18-15 loss at Jacksonville. It was a game in which Fitzpatrick hit him for a 98-yard touchdown pass, the longest in team history. Edwards, by comparison, was the quarterback who failed to complete a pass to Owens in a 27-7 loss to New Orleans on Sept. 27, ending T.O.’s 185-game streak that was the third longest in NFL history. “I liked Fitz’s demeanor. I liked his confidence. He has that type of, you know, swagger about him,” Owens said. “I knew the guy could play all along. I’m not surprised by any means. He’s doing a great job.” Fitzpatrick isn’t surprised by Owens’ production this season. As a former backup in Cincinnati, Fitzpatrick also provided Bengals starter Carson Palmer(notes) a few words of advice regarding T.O. last summer. “I told Carson, `You want this guy on your team because he can play,”’ Fitzpatrick said. “So they’re using him, I guess, like he should be used, and throwing him the ball like crazy.” Where Fitzpatrick drew the line was whether he Adidas Soccer Shoes would’ve preferred Owens still be in Buffalo. “I think everybody understood what it was. They brought him in for a year and things didn’t work out the way everybody wanted them to work out,” Fitzpatrick said before noting how well Steve Johnson(notes) has filled Owens’ job as the No. 2 receiver. “I’m not disappointed I’m throwing to Steve instead of Terrell. I guess I can say that.” Gailey credited Owens for the season he’s enjoying, but acknowledged the receiver’s age and production played into the team’s decision to not re-sign him. “You do reach the wall, and it’s a guess on when guys are going to do that. And you have to make assumptions with the information that you have at hand,” Gailey said. “We didn’t know where (the wall) was. We knew it was probably getting close. Obviously it wasn’t. But we felt like it was getting close.” Gailey also added he wanted to free up a spot to allow his younger receivers to develop.
